Insulation
Silk duvet inners provide excellent insulation while remaining lightweight. We offer two different weights of silk duvet inners, The Summer Silk Duvet Inner which is ideal for warm climates like South Africa but thick enough to keep you warm during winter, and the Spring Silk Duvet inner which is a slightly thicker silk (Tog rating of 6.4 – see below to understand tog ratings) for those who feel the cold more. Duck down also offers excellent insulation, but hollow fiber is not as effective.
Breathability
Silk is highly breathable, allowing for comfortable temperature regulation. Duck down is also breathable but less so than silk, while hollow fiber may trap more heat resulting in a potentially sweaty experience during the night.
Hypoallergenic
Silk duvet inners are hypoallergenic and suitable for people with allergies. Duck down can trigger allergies in some individuals, while hollow fiber is generally hypoallergenic.
Lightweight
Both duck down and silk duvet inners are lightweight with silk being lighter overall, making them easy to handle and comfortable to sleep under. Hollow fiber duvets are also lightweight. Silk Duvet inners may seem flat but have the lightweight properties and insulation properties provided by nature herself to keep you warm.
Temperature Regulation
Silk duvets excel at temperature regulation, helping to keep you cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather. Duck down provides good temperature regulation, while hollow fiber’s performance depends on the quality. We offer two different weights of silk duvet inners, The Summer Silk Duvet Inner which is ideal for warm climates in Africa but thick enough to keep you warm during wineter, and the Spring Silk Duvet inner which is a slightly thicker silk for those who feel the cold more.
Durability
Silk duvet inners are relatively durable but may require more care (5 year replumping is recommended – done free of charge at our factory). Duck down duvets are also durable when properly maintained. Hollow fiber duvets may have a shorter lifespan.
Moisture Wicking
Silk has natural moisture-wicking properties, helping to keep you dry and comfortable. A moisture-wicking fabric has two jobs: one is quickly moving (or wicking) sweat to the fabric’s outer surface, and the other is drying rapidly so that your sweat doesn’t saturate the fabric. Duck down does not wick moisture, and hollow fiber may retain moisture to some extent.
Ease of Maintenance
Silk and duck down duvet inners require more care and may need professional cleaning. Silk has natural dirt repelling properties and does not need regular cleaning. If you need to wash the silk duvet, we recommend dry cleaning from time to time. clean in cold water with Hollow fiber duvets are easier to clean and maintain at home.
Luxurious Feel
Both silk and duck down duvet inners offer a luxurious and soft feel with silk feeling a lot lighter and “cloud like”. Hollow fiber duvets can vary in their texture and feel depending on the quality.
Ultimately, the choice between silk duvet inner, duck down, or hollow fiber duvet inners depends on your personal preferences, budget, and specific sleep needs. Silk duvet inners are prized for their luxurious feel and excellent temperature regulation, making them a popular choice for those who can afford them and prioritize these qualities.
